Dr. Vali Nasr is Senior Research Fellow at the Dubai Initiative, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Dr. Nasr is also Adjunct Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies for the Council on Foreign Relations, and Professor and Associate Chair of Research at the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School in the United States.
Born in Iran, Dr. Nasr received his B.A. from Tufts University, his M.A.L.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Nasr's areas of expertise include Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, political Islam, comparative politics of South Asia and the Middle East, and democratization in Muslim world. He is the author of The Shia Revival, Democracy in Iran, and The Islamic Leviathan, and his current work examines Iraq, Iran, and democracy in the Islamic world. He has also written for The New York Times, Time, and the Washington Post, and is a frequent commentator for CNN, BBC, National Public Radio, and The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. His works have been translated into several languages.
