Dr. Hatem is Senior Research Fellow at the Dubai School of Government and Professor of Management at the American University in Cairo (Egypt). He has around 20 years of experience in teaching, consultancy and training in management in Egypt. Dr. Hatem earned a Ph.D. in Strategic Management in 1986, and a master’s degree in Public Administration in 1981, both from the University of Colorado. He is a Certified Management Consultant from the Institute of Management Consultancy in the UK, and is Chairman of the Management Consultants Association in Egypt.

At the American University in Cairo, Dr Hatem was awarded the Teachers' Merit Award in 1997-1998, and two of the theses that he supervised received the Wisner Award for best thesis. In 2006, he was awarded a Microfinance Management Institute (MFMI) fellowship. Dr. Hatem’s most recent publications include the chapter "Human Resources Management in Egypt, "in the book Managing Human Resources in the Middle East, and the paper "Understanding the Cultural Differences between Americans and Egyptians: A Key to Building Cross-Cultural Effectiveness."
