Proof that the Hajj makes pilgrims more religious – and more tolerant

In an opinion piece in The National newspaper, DSG Research Fellow Asim Ijaz Khwaja, David Clingingsmith and Michael Kremer recount the findings of their study of Pakistani hajj pilgrims, showing that while the hajj leads to greater religious orthodoxy, it also bolsters the desire for peace and tolerance toward others, including non-Muslims.
