Dr. Mohammad Arzaghi is currently Assistant Professor of Economics at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Originally from Iran, he received a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University in 2005, an M.A. in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech), and a B.S. in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Tehran. His current research is in urban economics and industrial organization—specifically knowledge sharing and spillovers among small businesses. Dr. Arzaghi has also conducted research in the economics of advertising and marketing, migration, and political economics.
Dr. Arzaghi previously worked for the World Bank, serving as a core member of the Bank’s World Development Report team in 1998 and 1999. During 1995-96, he was an economic advisor at the Qeshm Free Area in Iran. He has also been a researcher at the US Census Bureau and at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
